Holiday apartment in Zeewolde – Nature, Water and Art
Zeewolde combines tranquil nature, open expanses of water, striking art and a variety of leisure destinations. Between forest paths, beaches and the Wolderwijd are experiences ranging from a quiet route to water sports, cycling routes and special play areas.
Nature and cycle paths
The Horsterwold nature reserve is located in the municipality of Zeewolde, west and south of Zeewolde. It covers more than 3,700 hectares. Horsterwold is accessible year-round from sunrise to sunset via roads and paths. Within this natural area, the Stille Kern covers 900 hectares and is considered the quietest place in Horsterwold.
In the Stille Kern, visitors may roam freely through nature away from the paths. The 5.5-kilometre Stille Kern Route leads to and around a large natural body of water. Along the route, there is an opportunity to observe fallow deer, Konik horses, white-tailed eagles or foxes. The 12-metre-high observation tower on the Horsterberg offers a view of the Stille Kern.
Cycle paths also connect different landscapes. De Grote Trap is an 8-kilometre-long nature corridor connecting Nieuw Land National Park with Horsterwold, the Randmeren and the Veluwe. The 35.5-kilometre Grote Trap cycling route starts at Resort De Parel, leads to the Grote Trap and ends again at the starting point on Groenewoudseweg. The Doortraproute Zeewolde runs along quiet, wide cycle paths through the harbour area, the village and extensive forests, and along beaches. In the green zone between Kwartiermakerslaan and Gelderseweg, there is a pump track for bicycles, skateboards, scooters and skates. The Hans & Grietje bicycle rest stop offers a toilet, a water tap and a bicycle pump.
Water and beaches
Tulpeiland is a tulip-shaped peninsula in the Wolderwijd off the coast of Zeewolde and offers opportunities for tourism and water sports. A 200-metre-long dam connects Tulpeiland with the mainland. The De Spieghel lock connects this part of the Wolderwijd with the De Diamant shipping route. The Tulpeiland basin offers 80 mooring spaces. The Atol is also located on the Wolderwijd, a designated bathing area with a sunken section for diving.
Woldstrand includes a children’s beach, a youth beach, a surfing beach and a dog beach. The beaches of Woldstrand are connected by a beach promenade. Woldstrand has sanitary facilities and a large car park.
Erkemederstrand includes a 1.5-kilometre-long off-leash dog beach and a 5-kilometre-long dyke that extends to Zeewolde as another off-leash area. Erkemeder Dog Beach is open year-round. At Erkemederstrand, dogs may run, swim and play on the beach.
Art and leisure
Sea Level is a work by Richard Serra from 1996. It consists of two concrete walls, each 200 metres long. Walking along Sea Level creates the impression of walking underwater and then resurfacing.
In Zeewolde, Hans & Grietje combines a pancake house with a play park. The play park includes a real candy house, a haunted house with climbing adventures and slides, as well as a large go-kart track.
