Zeewolde combines expansive woodland nature, water-based experiences, art and varied activities for different kinds of holiday days. When you choose a holiday apartment in Zeewolde, you can tailor your stay to whatever suits you best: quiet forest paths, cycling tours, beaches, culture or activities for children.
Horsterwold and Stille Kern: Experience Nature Up Close
Horsterwold is a contiguous deciduous forest covering more than 3,700 hectares. It is accessible year-round from sunrise to sunset via roads and paths. Within Horsterwold lies the 1,100-hectare Stille Kern, where visitors can follow the tracks of wild Konik horses. Stille Kern is also one of Flevoland’s designated areas of peace and quiet.
For shorter hikes, the red-marked Wielewaal Route is a good option. The path, managed by Staatsbosbeheer, is 2.6 kilometres long and passes through Horsterwold in the municipality of Zeewolde. The light-blue-marked Natuurpad Horsterwold, also 2.6 kilometres long, offers a different view of nature: along the path, you can see hundreds of different mushroom species. The Stille Kern Route leads to and around a large natural lake, passing the Tuurtoren and a birdwatching hide.
Art and Landscape in Zeewolde
De Verbeelding is a centre for art and culture in Zeewolde and has an adapted toilet for visitors with disabilities. The Kunstroute Zeewolde leads to artworks in the town of Zeewolde and in Horsterwold. In the De Wetering landscape park stands Sea Level by Richard Serra, consisting of two concrete walls, each 200 metres long. The work illustrates the water level that would reach the top of the walls without dikes.
Woldstrand and Tulpeiland
Woldstrand comprises several themed beaches: a children’s beach with play equipment, a youth beach with the Atol, a surfing beach and a dog beach. The beaches are connected by a beach promenade; sanitary facilities and a large car park are also available. TOP Woldstrand is located in the centre of Zeewolde, on the edge of Woldstrand. Off the coast of Zeewolde lies Tulpeiland, a tulip-shaped peninsula in the Wolderwijd. A 200-metre-long dam connects the peninsula to the mainland.
Cycling Routes and Activities for Children
The Oud- en Nieuwland cycling route is suitable for standard and electric bicycles and is mostly paved. It starts in Zeewolde at TOP Woldstrand on Strandweg. De Grote Trap is an 8-kilometre-long nature corridor with a winding cycle path. The route of the same name starts at De Parel campsite, leads through De Grote Trap in the area around Zeewolde and ends again at De Parel campsite. The 12-metre-high Tuurtoren on the Horsterberg offers views of Stille Kern and is located on the cycling junction network.
At Speelbos Zevensprong, children can climb, run, play energetically and build dens in a natural setting with trees and shrubs. Hans & Grietje has indoor slides and a large play cellar with balancing stones, a climbing hill and games on the wall. In the green zone between Kwartiermakerslaan and Gelderseweg is an asphalt pump track for bicycles, skateboards, scooters and skates.
Choose Your Accommodation Based on Your Preferred Holiday Experience
When choosing your accommodation in Zeewolde, the activities you want to enjoy can be decisive: forest paths and nature observation bring Stille Kern and Horsterwold to mind, while cyclists can consider the routes around TOP Woldstrand, De Grote Trap and Oud- en Nieuwland. A bus stop near the start of the Wielewaal Route on Dasselaarweg makes it possible to travel by public transport. The ride through Horsterwold in the Ecokar is suitable for people with physical limitations, provided they are able to get into the vehicle.
