Flevoland: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Flevoland combines newly created landscapes with wetlands, islands in the Markermeer and an unusually long cultural history. Nieuw Land National Park covers 29,000 hectares of nature and is considered the largest man-made nature park area in the world. It consists largely of wetlands with high ecological dynamism and diversity. Since 2016, several islands have been created in the Markermeer under the name Marker Wadden.

Nature and Wildlife

The Oostvaardersplassen developed after large expanses of water remained in the newly created Flevopolder in 1968. They serve as a resting or breeding ground for tens of thousands of birds. In the Oostvaardersplassen, visitors can observe wild cattle, horses and red deer. Natuurpark Lelystad also offers insights into the wildlife: endangered Eurasian animal species live there, including wisents, also known as European bison, Przewalski's horses, European otters and Père David's deer.

Natuurpark Lelystad has numerous hiking and cycling trails. There are also 18 kilometres of walking trails there.

On the Marker Wadden, land areas and shallow water are created using sand, clay and silt from the bottom of the Markermeer, providing a habitat for plants, birds and fish. Marker Wadden offers a natural harbour, walking trails, birdwatching huts and a beach. The Markermeer is a water sports area where smaller vessels can navigate easily in calm weather.

History and Culture

Schokland has more than 10,000 years of settlement history and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On Schokland, visitors can discover and experience cultural history, archaeology and nature on foot or by bicycle. Museum Batavialand offers another way to explore Flevoland's history: it presents maritime history, underwater archaeology and the creation of Flevoland from the water. At Museum Batavialand, visitors can board a reconstruction of the Batavia and experience Dutch crafts from the 17th century at close quarters.

At Aviodrome, the history and technology of aviation take centre stage. The museum displays more than 100 unique aircraft and offers flight simulators as well as a 4D cinema. In the Waterloopbos, the walking route passes numerous hydraulic engineering models; the Delta Works, among others, were designed there.

Routes through Flevoland

The audio walking route through the Waterloopbos is 5 kilometres long and includes 15 stations. The Waterloopbos walking route is approximately 3 kilometres long. The Pionierspad crosses Flevoland over the former seabed of the Zuiderzee. It leads through forests, over dykes and along straight agricultural areas.

The Pionierspad passes through Noordoostpolder and Oostelijk Flevoland and runs along the Oostvaardersplassen. The complete Pionierspad is designated as a 208-kilometre route.

Attractions and Special Places

Walibi Holland has more than 40 attractions for visitors of different ages. The YOY roller coaster at Walibi Holland has a CHILL side and a THRILL side; on the THRILL side, riders hang upside down six times. Walibi Holland can be reached by the Walibi Express, bus route 247.

Belevenissenbos has kilometres of waterways and rough paths; a herd of horses lives in the horse valley. This means that the waterways, paths and horse valley are clearly named components of the same place.
