Holiday apartment in Linde: Forest, ponds and Reestdal

Linde is an esch village between Zuidwolde and Dedemsvaart, which is located in Overijssel. It developed on a higher strip of sandy land in extensive peatland areas. In the village and its surroundings, natural areas and bodies of water combine with traces of local history. The landscape includes forest, ponds, open areas, heathland, a peat lake and a watercourse.

Forest, ponds and old woodland

Landgoed Linde is a private forest established in 2003. At Landgoed Linde, forests, ponds and open areas alternate, providing a habitat for numerous plants and animals. A large part of the woodland on the Linderesch dates from before 1900. The site established in 2003 and the older woodland therefore represent different phases in the development of the forest. The character of the landscape changes between ponds, open areas and forest; in addition to the trees, bodies of water and open spaces also form part of the scenery at Landgoed Linde.

Heathland, peat lake and watercourse

The surroundings of Linde border the Reestdal area. Het Zwarte Gat lies north of Linde and is part of the larger De Slagen nature reserve. Het Zwarte Gat is a small heathland area with a large peat lake. To the east of Linde, the Vogelzangsche Wijk continues to flow; above the hamlet of Pieperij, it continues towards the Hoogeveensche Vaart. In the surroundings of Linde, heathland, peat lake and watercourse thus alternate with the village’s forest and peatland features. Walks and excursions offer varied landscape impressions, from open heathland to sections shaped by water.

Hikes and excursions

Theaterschuur Linde offers hikes and excursions on and around Landgoed Linde. One specific route is “Gluur'n bi'j de Buur'n”; it is 14 kilometres long. The Het Zwarte Gat nature area and the Reestdal are within walking distance. Anyone planning this route can allow a full day of hiking for the 14 kilometres. The landscape areas within walking distance add further destinations around Linde to the tour. This provides both a longer route and a selection of different natural settings for planning, without conflating the individual locations.

Linderdennen and the Brink

In 1940, a labour camp was established in Linde, in the Linderdennen. At the intersection of Linderweg and Ommerweg lies a small brink lined with old oak trees. The Linderdennen therefore centres on an event from 1940, while at the brink, the intersection and the old trees define the village scene. Both details belong to different aspects of local history: one concerns a dated event, while the other concerns a specific place with old oak trees.
