Ansen combines nature experiences with a diverse cultural landscape. The Anserdennen area is part of Dwingelderveld National Park. Ansen borders the Anserdennen nature area on its northeastern side. Hayfields and pastures lie between Ansen and Landgoed Rheebruggen; this is where De Zure Venen is located, with alder carr forests and flower-rich wet meadows. This creates a place for your holiday planning where paths, landscape areas and historical themes are closely connected.

Hiking between Anserdennen and Dwingelderveld

A specific way to find your bearings is the Anserdennen Dwingelderveld hiking route. It is 2 kilometres long and leads through the Anserdennen and across the Anseres near Ansen. The route starts at Theehuys Anserdennen at Schapendrift 1 in Ansen and is marked with blue arrows. Its manageable length and clear markings make the route an easy-to-plan part of a day focused on the landscape around Ansen.

There is also an unmarked 3-kilometre hiking route on Landgoed Rheebruggen. Those who want to combine different activity preferences during their trip will find another route length there in addition to the marked route near Ansen. A 37-kilometre cycling route can also be followed on Landgoed Rheebruggen. The different distances help you tailor your plans more towards short walks or a longer cycling tour, without mixing up the places and paths.

Landscape and regional orientation

Ansen’s location can be understood particularly through its connections with nature. The Anserdennen is part of Dwingelderveld National Park, while Ansen borders the nature area on its northeastern side. In the direction of Landgoed Rheebruggen, hayfields and pastures shape the area. De Zure Venen complements this landscape with alder carr forests and flower-rich wet meadows. These landscape elements give you points of reference when choosing your holiday apartment in Ansen, helping you decide whether to focus primarily on observing nature, hiking trails, or a combination of landscape and culture.

A resting place, drinks and short breaks

Theehuys Anserdennen is a resting place for hikes on the Drenthepad and cycling tours through the Dwingelderveld. Coffee, tea and other drinks, as well as fresh cake, sandwiches and other treats, are served there. Together with the starting point of the Anserdennen Dwingelderveld hiking route, Theehuys therefore provides a specific point of reference for planning around Ansen. The road from Ansen to Uffelte runs through Landgoed Rheebruggen and connects these landscape and cultural areas in the regional context.

Historical traces around Rheebruggen

In addition to hiking and cycling routes, Landgoed Rheebruggen also offers cultural-historical points of interest. The farmhouse at Rheebruggen 10 is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning significance because of its connection with the former Havezate Rheebruggen. Behind the Bouwhuis Rheebruggen, the original house site of the former Havezate, surrounded by a moat, is still clearly recognisable. Both points draw attention to the historical development of the site without describing the former estate as its present-day function.

Huis te Ansen was also known as Hof te Ansen and was a Havezate. It was built in the 12th century by a cousin of the Bishop of Utrecht. This historical picture is complemented by the hall house farmhouse at Dwingelerweg 25 in Ansen, which dates from 1840. The schoolmaster’s house at Dwingelerweg 1 dates from 1912 and features Art Nouveau elements. These different focal points can be helpful when choosing accommodation: you decide whether nature themes, active routes or cultural-historical discoveries should shape the character of your stay.
