Vredenheim 5 is a farm built in 1880, with a brick-roofed gable roof with hipped ends and a chimney. Historically, four farms bore the inscription „Vredenheim“; they were built on the present-day plots Vredenheim 5, 6, 8 and 10. A farm belonging to the Ter Steege family stood in the field near Vredenheim. Archaeological finds from the late Stone Age in the surrounding area indicate that people were already settled there before the Common Era.

History on the Liberation Route

In the days before the liberation of Grolloo on 12 April, French paratroopers landed at various locations in Drenthe, including the area between Kamp Westerbork and Grolloo, from Halkenbroeken to Vredenheim. A Liberation Route Europe route runs from Kamp Westerbork via Grolloo and Vredenheim to Ekehaar, where it reconnects with the route towards Assen.
