Montepennino combines outdoor activities, regional flavors and historic sites to create a range of holiday experiences. If you are planning to stay in a holiday apartment in Montepennino, you can combine active days, tastings and cultural discoveries. The different themes allow you to alternate between exercise, rural production, and both sacred and archaeological culture.
Cycling tour through vineyards and olive groves
The “Montefalco e Bevagna tra vigne e cantine” cycling tour is almost 70 kilometers long. Several kilometers run along the Strada del Sagrantino through valuable vineyards and centuries-old olive groves. The route descends from Montefalco toward Bevagna via Montepennino. At almost 70 kilometers, the route should be planned as a longer cycling circuit and requires setting aside a dedicated time window for the day.
Agriculture and wine tasting
Fattoria Giorgetti is located on Via Montepennino in Montefalco. It produces oil, honey, eggs, cured meats, fruit and vegetables. The farm organizes tours of its agricultural operation either accompanied by a farmer or independently, each followed by a tasting. The choice between an accompanied and an independent tour can be adapted to the preferred schedule for the visit. At the La Veneranda winery, red wines are paired during a tasting with the farm’s own products: capocollo, bocconcello, bruschetta, Crostino della Veneranda, salami, dried salsiccia, aged pecorino, red wine jelly and tozzetti.
Churches, museums and palaces
The Museo Civico di San Francesco, a museum, is located in the vicinity of Montepennino. The archaeological site Esposizione archeologica sui plestini umbri is also located in the area. The palaces Palazzo Vitelleschi and Palazzo Guiducci are likewise nearby. For those interested in culture, the selection in the surrounding area ranges from the museum and archaeological site to palaces and the two churches. The Church of the Santissima Trinità displays a painting by Francesco Melanzio attributed to the early 16th century. It is located downhill from the center of Montepennino, near the turnoff to Bevagna. The small church of Sant’Antonio was originally dedicated to Madonna degli Angeli. It is located on the road leading downhill from Montepennino toward Foligno, at the intersection with the old road to Montefalco. For orientation in the surrounding area, the turnoff to Bevagna and the intersection with the old road to Montefalco mark two specific road connections: Santissima Trinità is near the first, while Sant’Antonio is at the second.
The surrounding landscape
The area around Montepennino also includes Monte Matigge, Poggio delle Civitelle, Monte Aguzzo and Monte Lagarella. The four mountains extend Montepennino’s landscape beyond its vineyards and olive groves.
