Fighille brings together art, local history, religious heritage and active exploration. The “Mountain Bike from Fighille” tour starts here. At the same time, the Piccolo Museo di Fighille, the Church of San Michele Arcangelo and the Santa Maria di Petriolo Sanctuary lead to very different sides of the town.

Holiday apartment in Fighille between art and history

The Piccolo Museo di Fighille houses a permanent collection of modern art associated with the national FighilleArte painting competition. Since 2001, the museum has comprised more than 250 works of figurative art, predominantly paintings. They represent more than 140 artists from all over Italy. Fighille therefore offers a tangible introduction to Italian art that can be combined with a stay in the town.

The museum building itself also contributes to Fighille’s history: From the Middle Ages until the unification of Italy, it was the seat of the Papal Customs Office. This long-documented period connects today’s museum with the town’s eventful past, without requiring art and history to be considered separately.

FighilleArte: Art in the town and at the school

The FighilleArte competition has been held every year since 1979 on the first weekend in October to mark the town’s patron saint festival. It includes separate categories for studio works completed in advance and extemporaneous works created on site. During the FighilleArte weekend, visitors can watch artists at work in the town’s streets. They can also visit the exhibition of all the competition entries at the local school.

Sanctuary, church and mountain bike tour

The Santa Maria di Petriolo Sanctuary was consecrated on 28 August 1913, based on a design by the architect Pilade Ghiandai. The Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Fighille contains the 15 original works of the Stations of the Cross from Fighille to the Santuario di Petriolo. Together with the mountain bike tour starting here, this provides cultural, spiritual and sporting themes for planning your own day.

Palaces, museums and mountains in the surrounding area

The area around Fighille is home to Vitelli Palace at Saint Giacomo Palace, the Museo Diocesano Di Citta' Di Castello, Palazzo dei Priori and the Museo del Duomo. These destinations complement the local art and history with additional museums and palaces in the surrounding area.

The mountains Monte Civitella, Monte Fungaia, Piano di Colcelle and Monte Todo Pulito are also located nearby. Fighille’s clay pit supplied Fabbrica Ceramiche Baldelli with majolica clay, adding an industrial and artisan dimension to the landscape.

When considering a holiday apartment in Fighille or a holiday home for your stay, you can plan around your preferred focus: FighilleArte and the museums represent art and culture, while the churches and Stations of the Cross offer religious themes, and the mountain bike tour is ideal for active days. The mountains and the clay pit complement this range with landscape and local history.
