Discover San Secondo
Accommodation in San Secondo
San Secondo brings together a striking war memorial, a restored church altar and paths through the countryside. This means you can explore the village through both its commemorative heritage and its walks and routes. When looking for a holiday apartment, one question is a helpful place to start: should your holiday focus mainly on culture in the village or on outdoor activities? The following examples offer different starting points to help you decide.
Culture and memorials
The San Secondo war memorial is a monument with commemorative plaques, dated 4 June 1925. It depicts a soldier covered by a flag and a helmet; below him stands an eagle as an allegory of victory. The composition draws the eye from the soldier figure to the victory symbol positioned beneath it. This makes it possible to explore the monument both through its design and through its clearly identified symbolism. The date provides a specific point of reference for engaging with this memorial.
Another cultural landmark is the altar of the Holy Spirit in the parish church of San Bartolomeo. On 19 October 2025, after more than a year of restoration, it was returned to use for worship. The date and duration give the restoration a specific place in the village’s recent history. If you would like to see the altar in person, check access to the church before your visit.
The “San Secondo in Festa – Madonna del Buon Consiglio” festival has religious and popular traditions at its heart and includes religious, cultural and food-related events. The “San Secondo in festa” village festival was listed for 23–25 May 2025 at the Area Verde on Via della Stazione in San Secondo. If an event is a reason for your trip, check the dates for your intended travel period.
Paths and countryside
The Anello di Canoscio walking trail follows a comfortable unpaved path alongside the Aggia stream to the edge of the hamlet of San Secondo. From there, it continues between the railway line and extensive cultivated fields to Fabbrecce. The route brings together different landscape features: first the stream beside the path, then the railway line and the open fields. The sections described give you a clear idea of the surroundings along the walking trail.
Route 14, “The ancient villages and castles of the Upper Tiber Valley,” passes through the village of San Secondo. Before climbing to the village, a section crosses distinctly rural countryside; the ascent passes through chestnut woods. The turnoff towards Monte Santa Maria Tiberina is at kilometre 7.2, while the route enters San Secondo. The kilometre marker locates the turnoff along the route; the route itself also shows that the village is part of it.
What suits your holiday plans
There are several starting points to consider when choosing the focus of your holiday: the monument and church altar offer cultural discoveries, the Anello di Canoscio provides a walk along the Aggia and through the surroundings of Fabbrecce, and Route 14 takes you through rural countryside and chestnut woods on the way to San Secondo. When looking for a holiday apartment, consider which of these interests you would like to shape your trip. This way, you can start by choosing San Secondo based on the experiences that appeal to you most.
