Sinalunga combines Tuscan culture, culinary traditions and varied landscapes within a compact thematic area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Sinalunga, you can plan your stay around historic places, special events, routes through the countryside and regional specialities. The selection ranges from underground passages and Cotto architecture to vineyards, olive groves and Chianina cattle breeding.
Holiday apartment in Sinalunga among festivals and history
A notable example of the local festival culture is the Fiera alla Pieve. It formerly took place in the second week of October on the grounds next to the Pieve ad Mensulas church and was characterised by the sale of livestock, meat and goods. Today’s Fiera alla Pieve preserves gastronomic traditions with porchetta, celery, croccante and cheeses in various types and stages of maturation. There are also market stalls and an amusement park.
L'Incantaborgo also brings together a variety of experiences: the programme includes craft markets, exhibitions, street food and special openings of particularly noteworthy places in the historic centre. Every summer, L'Incantaborgo in Sinalunga also offers a festival featuring mobile street theatre, acrobatics, juggling, dance, visual installations and musical performances. The town’s cultural character thus ranges from culinary encounters to lively moments on stage.
Historical insights above and below ground
The underground passages of Fonte del Castagno are more than 200 metres long and were completed in 1265. Their tours are organised by the Gruppo Archeologico Sinalunghese. Groups of no more than 10 people are permitted on Saturdays or Sundays following a written request at least one week in advance to ufficio.turistico@comune.sinalunga.si.it.
Palazzo Pretorio provides another cultural highlight in Sinalunga’s townscape: its façade and tower are made of Cotto, which is typical of Tuscany. The ruins of Castello di Montelifrè are also located in the area around Sinalunga. The Museo della Tortura di Montepulciano, the Museo della Civiltà Contadina di Fratticciola and the Bosco della Ragnaia park are likewise in the surrounding area.
Routes through forests, fields and vineyards
The Via Lauretana crosses the Sinalunga area, starting from the hamlet of Scrofiano. Its route passes through oak forests, cultivated fields, vineyards and olive groves. This succession of different landscapes makes the route a suitable theme for anyone who wants to combine nature and physical activity with Sinalunga’s cultural impressions when planning their trip.
Alongside Arezzo, Sinalunga is one of two recommended starting points for the Percorso del Gigante Bianco circular route and is considered a central location on the route. Its thematic common thread is the Chianina cattle breed. Along the Percorso del Gigante Bianco, visitors can tour Chianina cattle farms and taste genuine IGP beef. When choosing accommodation, you can use these focal points to shape the character of your planned days between landscapes, regional food and culture.
The wider surrounding region
The wider area around Sinalunga includes Castello di Montecchio Vesponi, a castle, as well as several mountains: Poggio del Sarto, Monte Castiglion Maggio and Alta San Egidio. The ruins of Castello di Montelifrè, museums and Bosco della Ragnaia park add to the cultural and scenic options in the surrounding area. This allows you to plan your trip around everything from events and buildings in the town to regional themes relating to nature and history.
