It played an important role during Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Expedition of the Thousand.

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta was built in 1374 on an older structure and houses 15th-century frescoes depicting the Madonna and Child. Outside Talamone, the Church of Madonna delle Grazie was built in the 17th century. It served travellers as a place of refuge and prayer. The Torre di Capo d’Uomo dates from the 16th century, while the Torre delle Cannelle was built by the Medici.
