The Torre di San Pancrazio was built by the Spanish in the second half of the 16th century to strengthen the defence system of the Stato dei Presidi. The Torre di San Biagio is a former Sienese watchtower on a cliff by the sea; during Saracen raids, it served for observation and defence. The Torre Puccini dates from the 15th century and stands on the shore of Spiaggia della Tagliata. At the foot of the Ansedonia promontory was the port of Cosa, Portus Cosanus.

Water engineering as an unusual cultural experience

The connection between landscape and history is particularly vivid at the Spacco della Regina. The natural fissure was initially used for the water management of Portus Cosanus, making use of its water power. Later, movable barriers were installed there to ensure constant water circulation and counteract the silting-up of the harbour; the recesses are still visible in the rock. The artificial Tagliata "etrusca", carved entirely into the rock, is about 80 metres long. It was intended to improve the flow of water between the sea and the lagoon and protect the harbour facilities of Cosa from silting up.

Nature, paths and beaches around Ansedonia

The Promontorio di Ansedonia is surrounded by lush Mediterranean maquis. The Riserva naturale Duna di Feniglia offers a different kind of landscape: a state-protected nature reserve established in 1971. An unpaved path runs through this nature reserve near Ansedonia. You can use it on foot or by bicycle; it is closed to motorised traffic. This mix of cultural experiences and nature observation can be a decisive factor when choosing your holiday apartment if you want to combine active and more relaxing days during your holiday.

The beaches in the immediate vicinity include La capannuccia. The historic site of Tombolo in Mezzogiorno Di Feniglia is also nearby.
