Between Romanesque Architecture and Local Culture

Codrongianos combines sacred architecture, traditional craft techniques, and a landscape in which vineyards and olive groves are an established feature. A prominent attraction is the Basilica della SS. Trinità di Saccargia, an example of Romanesque-Pisan architecture in Sardinia.

The Church of the Conversion of Saint Paul houses two large altarpieces: one depicts the Conversion of Saint Paul, while the other portrays the patronage of the Blessed Virgin; both are attributed to Baccio Gorini. The Church of Santa Croce in Codrongianos was built in the Romanesque style in the 13th century and houses a painting by the Florentine painter Baccio Gorini.

The Ce.Do.C. includes a medieval section on the monastic settlement of Saccargia and on the life, society, and economy of the villages of medieval Sardinia. A historical section contains archival documents and historical materials relating to Codrongianos and its surrounding area from 1800 to 1900. It also includes a historical-artistic section with paintings dating predominantly from the 17th and 18th centuries, donated to the parish of San Paolo by Canon Sanna Obino, as well as old copies of famous paintings by Raphael and Guido Reni.

The Ce.Do.C. also houses panel paintings from the late 15th and 16th centuries that originally stood in the Abbey of the Holy Trinity of Saccargia.

Crafts, Countryside and Festive Traditions

In Codrongianos, traditional craft techniques such as weaving sos coinzolos and the fine embroidery of sos corittos have been passed down through generations. Fattende in Codronzanu has showcased the skills and knowledge of craftspeople, professionals, and people interested in the subject from Codrongianos since 2006.

The vineyards and olive groves are an established feature of Codrongianos’s landscape.

The feast of Santissima Trinità di Saccargia takes place on the Sunday after Pentecost. It includes a procession, religious rites, performances, dances, poetry contests, folk music, and tastings.

Mountains and Historical Attractions in the Surrounding Area

The mountains of Monte Pizzinnu, Monte Meddaris, and Punta Corona Majore are located near Codrongianos. Monte Pubulema is a mountain in the surrounding area of Codrongianos.

Other cultural attractions can also be found in the surrounding area of Codrongianos: the Museo Nazionale G.A. Sanna is a museum, Palazzo Giordano and Palazzo Ducale are palaces, and Castello Aragonese is a castle.

MuArC – Museo d’Arte e Comunità – was inaugurated in Codrongianos as a new space for art, memory, and participation.
