The Chiesa di San Platano stands in a park on the outskirts of Villaspeciosa and brings together several historical layers. Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille built it in the first quarter of the 12th century. Its design combines influences from French and Pisan Romanesque architecture. The two statues of the saints are carried in a procession accompanied by Goccius and Launeddas. In the days before the San Platano festival, the traditional rituals of the Sagra de s’Abiu, the alder festival, also take place. A mural at the entrance to Villaspeciosa tells the story of the life and miracles of San Platano.

To reach the San Cromazio site, leave Villaspeciosa at the western edge in the direction of Via Tuveri. The Chiesa di San Platano is generally closed; during the San Platano festival, it is open to visitors. You should contact the municipality of Villaspeciosa to arrange a visit.
