Soleminis combines a hilly landscape with a remarkable wealth of culture, religious traditions and regional characteristics. The municipality lies in a hilly area of Campidano di Cagliari, on the border with the last mountain foothills of Serpeddì.

Art and Religious Heritage in Soleminis

At the edge of the present-day municipal boundary in Sedd'e Cresia stands the parish church of San Giacomo. The church dates from the 17th century and may have been built over a medieval predecessor. The church also houses a painting of the Trinity and the Holy Family from the late 16th century, originating from a workshop in Stampace. The furnishings also include the statue of San Giacomo il Maggiore, a painted wooden work dating from 1700 to 1749 and attributed to the workshop of Giuseppe Antonio Lonis.

Another way to explore the history of the village is through Casa Corda Spada. The cultural centre houses an ethnographic collection as well as furniture, everyday objects and artefacts from island daily life. The Mont'Arrubiu centre complements it as an information and documentation centre with a multimedia room for educational activities. Together, these facilities represent the different ways in which Soleminis's cultural life is expressed: sacred art, craft objects, everyday history and educational programmes.

Local Produce and Festivals

Bread is one of Soleminis's typical local products. Regional traditions are especially vivid during the festivals. At the Sant’Isidoro festival in the last week of May, the saint's statue is carried to a rural church. A procession of worshippers, horse riders, groups in traditional dress and festively decorated ox carts, known as traccas, accompanies the route.

The festival in honour of San Giacomo and Sant’Anna on 25 and 26 July includes religious and civic celebrations, craft and art exhibitions, film screenings and fireworks. The celebration of Sant'Antonio Abate on 17 January also combines religious customs with community life: after a torchlight procession at night, a large fire is lit, followed by the distribution of blessed oranges, mandarins, bread and wine.

Natural Environment and Wildlife

The Campidano State Forest, which extends across the territory of four municipalities, is part of Soleminis's area. Its wildlife includes, among others, the Sardinian hare, partridges, quail and foxes. Sardinian wild boar are found only in the denser areas. Road and Rail Connections

The Campidano State Forest can be reached from Soleminis via a partly paved road approximately 5 kilometres long. The rail connection to and from Soleminis includes Monserrato and San Gottardo.
