Casalgrasso combines river landscapes, trails and distinctive local features. The Riserva della Confluenza del Maira nel Po is located near Casalgrasso; a large part of the municipality of Casalgrasso lies within the Parco Fluviale del Po Cuneese, which was established in the early 1990s. The two natural features cover different geographical areas: the Riserva is located near Casalgrasso, while the Parco Fluviale covers a large part of the municipality. The landscape setting therefore extends from the confluence into the wider river park, connecting a specific natural site with a larger park landscape.

River landscape and trails around Casalgrasso

The Casalgrasso Percorso salute runs entirely along unpaved paths and is suitable for everyone. After the confluence with the Torrente Varaita, the route follows Lago di Cava and then heads back towards the built-up area of Casalgrasso. At Lago di Cava, there is a picnic area overlooking the basin. Anyone planning the route as an excursion can combine time at Lago di Cava with the subsequent return towards the built-up area. The picnic area at Lago di Cava can be considered as a planned stopping point between the lakeside section and the return route. The Percorso salute is unpaved along its entire length; this surface is therefore one of the fixed conditions to take into account when planning the timing of the route.

Cycling with a cultural destination

For cyclists, the “Estensione Casalgrasso (percorso 2c)” cycle route reaches the church of Casalgrasso after 6.9 km. The distance of 6.9 km provides a fixed framework for planning the day’s cycle tour.

Culture and remembrance in the town

The Monumento ai Caduti e dispersi di Casalgrasso consists of a large triangular stone bearing an engraved marble plaque; next to it is another, smaller triangular stone. The engraved marble plaque differs in material from the two triangular stones. The larger and smaller stones share the same basic geometric shape. The monument permanently commemorates the fallen and missing persons of Casalgrasso. The Chiesa della Confraternita is associated with the Compagnia dei Battuti and was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The Chiesa di Santa Croce is located a few hundred metres from the turnoff leading back to Casalgrasso. The location of the Chiesa di Santa Croce spatially connects the church building with the route back to Casalgrasso.

Tradition and a local detail

Mint cultivation has a certain significance in Casalgrasso. A religious celebration traditionally takes place on the third Sunday in October at the Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie. The date can be included in your trip schedule, while mint cultivation adds an agricultural detail of the town to this religious theme.
