Bedero Valcuvia reveals its character through the connection between local history and the landscape. The historic center preserves a strongly medieval structure, while the town is known as the “Balcone della Valcuvia” and offers panoramic views across the valley. For those interested in culture, the focus is on both the townscape and Valcuvia. This combination gives a trip two clearly defined focal points. These two sides can be experienced together directly in Bedero Valcuvia: the historic center and views across Valcuvia stand alongside the trails to Monte Scerrè and Monte Martica.

Holiday apartment in Bedero Valcuvia with a historic townscape

The historic center is characterized by closely built stone houses. These include narrow alleyways locally known as “bocc.” The dense development and narrow passages give the townscape a distinctive, enclosed character. The term “bocc” remains associated with the narrow passages in the historic center.

Parkland and nature around Bedero Valcuvia

The Campo dei Fiori Regional Park surrounds Bedero Valcuvia; at the same time, Bedero Valcuvia is included in the park. The regional park forms the town’s natural setting, while the historic center defines the architectural character of Bedero Valcuvia. Bedero Valcuvia lies within the regional park that surrounds the town. The townscape, panoramic views and parkland each provide their own distinct accents.

Hiking trails to Monte Scerrè and Monte Martica

CAI hiking trail no. 380 leads from Bedero Valcuvia via Madonna Degli Alpini to Monte Scerrè. Trail 16, which belongs to the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park, leads to Monte Martica; Bedero Valcuvia is included in the park. The two routes therefore direct attention to different mountain destinations and give the hiking theme two directions. The second trail does not lead to the same mountain, but to Monte Martica.

Art, sacred history and military traces

Remains of military positions can also be found on Monte Scerrè. The Chiesa di Sant’Ilario di Poitiers preserves a Baroque altar. The church’s bell tower is partly the only surviving element of its original Romanesque style. Together, these elements create a cultural spectrum ranging from sacred art to historical traces on the mountain. The connection between sacred art and military traces thus extends from the Chiesa di Sant’Ilario di Poitiers to Monte Scerrè. The military remains are located on Monte Scerrè; the mountain is also the destination of CAI trail no. 380.

A local festival tradition

A local festival tradition is also part of this picture. After COVID, the annual Alpini festival Festa alla Madonnina was no longer held at Sass de ciucheta, but in the town. The venue was therefore moved from Sass de ciucheta to the town.
