Pescara is a coastal destination on the Adriatic coast with wide, golden beaches and a remarkable combination of sea, art, history and activity. This combination is already evident on the waterfront at the Nave di Cascella: The Carrara marble sculpture is inspired by an ancient galley and stands on Pescara’s seafront promenade near the beach. It is recognised as a place of cultural interest and has been described as a witness to Pescara’s institutional and collective identity.

Coast

The pedestrian area of Corso Umberto I begins at Piazza Rinascita and is suitable for walks among shops and restaurants. At Marina di Pescara, there are sailing and nautical schools; equipment required for water sports can also be rented there. Regarding connections, it is recorded that the marina is connected to the airport, railway station and motorway.

Culture

Pescara’s museums focus on different subjects. The Museo Paparella Treccia Devlet houses a permanent collection of historic majolica from Castelli; in total, the collection there comprises 151 majolica artefacts from the 16th to the 19th century. The Museo Civico Basilio Cascella preserves more than 600 works by the Cascella family. At the Museo delle Genti d’Abruzzo, multimedia stations and digital audio guides are available in several languages.

The Museo Casa Natale di Gabriele d’Annunzio displays war memorabilia, historical photographs, explanatory panels about the poet’s military service and generals’ uniforms. Gabriele d’Annunzio’s birthplace was declared a national monument in 1927. The IMAGO Museum offers a different focus: in the city centre, it provides 1,200 square metres of exhibition space for modern, contemporary and photographic art. The permanent collections of the IMAGO Museum are located across several floors.

Nature

At the Riserva naturale Pineta dannunziana, protected areas meet observable biodiversity. The area covers 56 hectares, of which 35 hectares remain in a natural state. The reserve is home to more than 100 bird species, including many migratory birds, as well as plants typical of wetlands. Walks and picnics are possible there.

On the move

For cycling and walking routes, the Ponte del Mare is a prominent landmark. The 466-metre-long cycle and pedestrian bridge connects the north and south of Pescara and includes a cycle path and a pedestrian walkway. The northern section of C1 Bike to Coast is 4.2 kilometres long; its travel time is stated as 15 minutes. The southern section of C1 Bike to Coast connects the Ponte del Mare with Pescara’s border with Francavilla al Mare. One of the main attractions along this southern section is the Porto Turistico.

The Aurum, a former distillery and now a cultural centre in the Pineta dannunziana, hosts events, exhibitions and conferences. Piazzale Michelucci at the Aurum provides space for summer events, exhibitions, evening cinema, concerts and theatre performances. This means that, in addition to the museums and routes along the water, there are other clearly identified cultural venues.
