Collecorvino among vineyards, olive groves and culture
Accommodation in Collecorvino
Collecorvino showcases a diverse landscape: the hills are covered with vineyards and olive groves, while historic buildings and religious sites add distinctive character. A good starting point for getting your bearings is the Belvedere of Collecorvino, located on a hill at an altitude of 253 metres.
The town also has a clear connection with hiking: the Penne–Collecorvino stage of Il Cammino d’Abruzzo passes through olive groves, vineyards and wheat fields. This makes it possible to get to know the surrounding area from a landscape-focused perspective. If you are arriving by train, it is also important to know that the nearest railway station is Pescara railway station, around 20 kilometres from Collecorvino. You can take this distance into account when planning your trip and choosing your accommodation.
Churches, buildings and local history
The Biblioteca comunale “Silvestro Cicoria” is one of the town’s cultural points of reference. It is a free public service promoting information, documentation and reading. The Church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo has ancient Benedictine origins. The fully restored Convento San Patrignano contains a 17th-century fresco in its refectory depicting the Last Supper. It had been hidden for centuries before coming to light again.
Other distinctive buildings complete this picture. The Chiesa dell’Incoronata has a brick façade framed by two matching bell towers. Collecorvino is also home to an old castle with a neoclassical appearance. Palazzo Cicoria was built in the early years of the 20th century. The Chiesa di San Rocco features a typical 16th-century design and a façade created in the pure Renaissance style. The municipal area is also home to numerous traditional buildings made of straw and clay, known as “pagliare”.
Santa Lucia and the annual calendar
A particular focus is the Contrada Villa Santa Lucia. The Chiesa di Santa Lucia is believed to date back to the 16th century. The Festa di Santa Lucia in Collecorvino takes place on the second Sunday in May and may therefore be a special date to consider when planning a spring trip. A path beside the church on the right leads to the Santa Lucia spring. It ends at a simple rectangular basin with three outlets. The May event and the path to the spring are two different reasons to include this area in your travel plans.
