History on Zalavár-Vársziget
The memorial park on Zalavár-Vársziget is regarded as Hungary’s most important site of the cult of Saint Adrian. It includes Hungarian, Bulgarian, Slovenian and Austrian monuments. The nations’ monuments stand along the road between the Kis-Balaton House and the Millennium Monument. The Tree of Life has been on display there since 2011: its 258 leaves symbolise the municipalities of Zala County. The Szent-István Chapel is dedicated to King Stephen the Saint and was built in 1996 over the foundations of a church from the Árpád era.
The Basilica of Saint Adrian also gives the area’s history a tangible sense of time. From the late 860s, it was the main church of Methodius’s Pannonian archdiocese for almost a decade. The Millenniumi Emléképület and the Szent-István Chapel in Zalavári Történelmi Emlékpark can be visited free of charge during opening hours. Check the specific opening days before your visit.
Water and nature at the Kis-Balaton House
The exhibition at the Kis-Balaton House presents the natural assets of the Kis-Balaton water protection system and its role in protecting the water quality of Lake Balaton.
