The Várvölgyi Szent Domonkos templom is a Roman Catholic, protected church in the village district of Alsózsid and is usually called “alsózsidi templom.” Its history encompasses several clearly distinct building phases: it was built in the early 14th century in the Gothic style, during the reign of Károly Róbert. It was partially destroyed during the Ottoman period. In the 18th century, a nave was added between the surviving tower and the chancel. In 1899, the entire building was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style according to plans by Radics Ákos. Its architectural history thus spans its medieval construction, destruction and expansion, and its 19th-century restoration.
