Every year, it stages classics of Hungarian and world literature as well as contemporary works, and hosts several premieres.
The almost 500 m², temperature-controlled and modern exhibition space of the Vaszary Képtár presents regional and national thematic exhibitions as well as group and retrospective exhibitions. The Vaszary Képtár is the most important exhibition venue for contemporary visual art in Kaposvár and the region.
The ruins garden of the Szentjakabi Bencés Apátság is considered Kaposvár’s oldest architectural heritage. In the Rippl-Rónai Virtual Space, visitors can use modern technology to enter one of the painter’s famous works and paint on a virtual canvas in the “Cornfield” style.
Nature and activities
A cycling path approximately 14.5 km long circles Lake Deseda and was named “Cycle Path of the Year” in 2022. Lake Deseda and its surroundings north of Kaposvár are a locally protected natural area with a diverse range of animal and plant life.
The Fekete-István Visitor Centre houses the exhibition “Békalencse, vízipásztor, fakopács – a Deseda élővilága” about the flora and fauna of Lake Deseda.
