Water-based activities, nature-rich walks and notable reminders of local history reveal different sides of Dunakiliti. The Kisrévi-Duna-ág offers opportunities to relax by the water and go fishing. Canoe trips and fishing are also possible on the Danube branches at the edge of the town. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you’ll also find opportunities for walks in natural surroundings.

Danube branches and a bridge between two towns

The Kisrévi-Duna-ág is associated both with relaxing by the water and with fishing. Another useful landmark is the small Pintér híd footbridge: it crosses the Kisrévi-Duna-ág between Dunakiliti and Tejfalusziget. Alongside the water-based activities, this structure is part of the local landscape, linking the names of the two towns. The Danube branches at the edge of Dunakiliti offer another activity: canoe trips and fishing. When planning your holiday, you can choose between spending time by the water, taking a canoe trip and walking in natural surroundings.

The tourist attractions include areas of shoreline under special protection, including the surroundings of the Bozi Bridge and the Kisrévi-Duna-ág. Nature lovers can take this into account when choosing a holiday apartment, alongside any interest in local buildings and history. The Millenniumi tölgy also offers a place to take a break outdoors: in summer, its canopy shades a bench beneath the tree where visitors can rest.

Church, oaks and Batthyány history

The Millenniumi tölgy is also part of the town’s history. In 1896, the people of Dunakiliti planted seven oak trees; six later died. The surviving oak, known as the Millenniumi tölgy, stands in front of the church. The Neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church is known for its stained-glass windows. Its architecture also features three naves, pointed vaults, pointed-arch windows and rose windows. The church was renovated in 2010. A small chapel beside the entrance houses a relic of László Batthyány-Strattmann, who was beatified in 2003.

Batthyány Castle is also associated with his history: Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann, known as the “Doctor of the Poor,” was born there. A memorial room in the castle was established in 2000. Dunakiliti’s religious architecture also includes the Batthyány Chapel, built in 1875 by Countess József Batthyány, née Batthyány Ludovika. In Tejfalusziget, Bozi Mihály began building a family chapel, the Szent Mihály-kápolna, in 1935. The different dates of construction and architectural styles make the history of the churches and chapels a subject in its own right, alongside the water and nature activities.

A village festival in June

The Péter-Pál-napi falunap has been held on the last Saturday in June since 1994. The festival includes a communal village breakfast, an agricultural procession, a fair and a celebration. The program offers another way to get to know Dunakiliti: instead of nature and architectural history, it focuses on sharing a meal, the procession and the fair. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Dunakiliti, you can make your choice based on whether you’d like to include time by the Danube branches, walks, historical sights or this village festival in your trip.
