The Szigetközi Tájvédelmi Körzet has scattered sections within the municipality of Feketeerdő. For orientation, it is worth understanding this protected-area connection as a mosaic, rather than equating it with the entire settlement. The sections and the continuous hardwood floodplain forest describe different spatial contexts: a protected area with scattered sections on the one hand, and a continuous forest type on the other.

Nature and culture in the wider destination of Győr-Moson-Sopron

In the wider destination of Győr-Moson-Sopron, the Fertő/Neusiedler See cultural landscape offers a different kind of scenery. It encompasses Eurasia’s westernmost steppe lake, as well as wetlands, saline soils, reed beds and shores. Lake Neusiedl forms the core of Fertő-Hanság National Park; the Hungarian part of the lake has been protected since 1977. In contrast to the hardwood floodplain forests in Feketeerdő, the steppe lake and its shores and wetlands are the defining nature feature here. These are two distinct regional landscape themes.

Also in the wider destination of Győr-Moson-Sopron, the Benedictine monastery in Pannonhalma was founded in 996. The World Heritage property of the Archabbey of Pannonhalma and its natural environment includes the monastery complex, basilica, educational buildings, Chapel of Our Lady, Millennium Chapel, and botanical and herb gardens. The many named components make Pannonhalma a distinct cultural destination. It differs from Feketeerdő’s local cultural feature, the locally protected Kisboldogasszony Church.
