Discover Kiskőrös: Culture, Baths and Collections
Accommodation in Kiskőrös
Kiskőrös combines literary heritage with unusual collections and bathing facilities. At the Petőfi Sándor Birthplace, you can encounter folk architecture dating from around 1790; other themes range from historic road rollers to more than 3,000 cactus species. You can tailor your stay to culture, technology, water and wine.
Petőfi and literary heritage
The Petőfi Sándor Birthplace in Kiskőrös is a protected building in folk architecture dating from around 1790. A permanent exhibition at the Petőfi Memorial Museum presents the poet’s life. The two sites are linked by the Műfordítói Szoborpark: the sculpture park is in the courtyard between the birthplace and the memorial museum, and its portraits commemorate translators of Petőfi’s works. The architecture, exhibition and sculptures offer different perspectives on the same literary figure.
Vehicles, road construction and cacti
At the Old Car Museum, visitors can view vehicles on the ground floor and in the gallery. Interactive computer exhibits on the first floor round out the visit. Alongside the vehicles, the exhibition therefore also offers an interactive element.
The Úttörténeti Múzeum’s open-air exhibition is devoted to the history of road construction: it features road-building machinery and equipment, as well as a bridge ensemble. The museum is also home to Central Europe’s largest collection of road rollers. Visitors interested in technical collections will find a different focus here than at the Old Car Museum.
A very different collection awaits you at the Kaktuszmúzeum in Kiskőrös, which comprises more than 3,000 cactus species. Together with the vehicles and road-building machinery, it highlights the variety of subjects to discover in Kiskőrös.
Baths, sports and wine
The Kiskőrösi Rónaszéki Fürdő has two outdoor pools with cold water, as well as two covered, open-sided thermal pools arranged as a pair and featuring a whirlpool bath. Facilities for beach football, beach volleyball and tennis are also available. Visitors can choose between bathing areas and sporting activities as different aspects of their visit.
At Borok Háza, visitors can enjoy wine tastings featuring local winemakers and wineries. An exhibition is devoted to historic and modern winemaking equipment. Since tastings are a visitor offering at the venue, it is advisable to check whether they are currently taking place before your visit.
Choose the right holiday apartment for your trip
When choosing a holiday apartment in Kiskőrös, you can base your decision on the experiences you want to make the focus of your trip: Petőfi and literature, technical collections, a day at the baths, or wine and winemaking. The range of themes lets you make a considered choice without limiting your stay to just one type of outing. If several of these interests come together, the mix of culture, collections and bathing facilities gives you a variety of starting points for planning.
