Nature

The Aqua Colun educational trail and its associated lookout towers and observation points make it possible to get to know the wildlife of Lake Kolon more closely. The trail begins in Izsák at the sports field and leads along the edge of the reed belt to a lookout point. The Bikatorok educational trail on Lake Kolon near Izsák is three kilometres long. From Izsák, it can be reached via a yellow-marked hiking trail to the western shore of Lake Kolon.

Trails and Observation

The Bikatorok educational trail can be explored on foot year-round; the lookout tower is currently closed due to the risk of accidents. The Kolon-tavi Fürkésző Oktatóközpont can be reached via an approximately 400-metre-long dirt track beside the football pitch in Izsák.

Culture and History

The building of the Kolon-tavi Madárvárta was constructed in 1920 and came into the possession of Kiskunság National Park in 1999. As part of the Kiskunság National Park's educational programme, the Kolon-tavi Madárvárta holds open days featuring bird-ringing demonstrations. Small groups can camp there in a nomadic style and conduct natural history field exercises using the available equipment.

The Pálinka- és Helytörténeti Múzeum provides insights into the old traditions of pálinka production, as well as the past and historical way of life of the people in the homeland of the Sárfehér grape.

Events and Local Traditions

The Izsáki Sárfehér Napok festival is named after a local grape variety and was established in 1936. Its three-day programme includes exhibitions of handicrafts and agricultural products, as well as cultural programmes. Tésztamajális is a competition for traditional Hungarian pasta dishes and takes place at the Vino restaurant and in its garden. Every year, locals and participants from elsewhere compete against one another.
