Bócsa: Tájház Ethnographic Collection and Regional Discoveries
Accommodation in Bócsa
Bócsa has two distinct facets. The Tájház is owned by the municipality and serves as an ethnographic collection. There is also a clearly dated sporting event: the Őszi Boróka Kupa was a two-day orienteering competition held in Bócsa on November 11, 2018. The collection and the competition appeal to different interests and give you two separate points of reference when assessing the town for a stay.
Culture and Nature in the Wider Destination of Bács-Kiskun
The wider destination of Bács-Kiskun offers more ideas related to archaeology, crafts and natural history. Each place has its own focus, so you can choose according to the subject that interests you most.
The Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail introduces the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of the people of that period. The site is classified as a specially protected archaeological site in Bács-Kiskun; this classification was made under Decree 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. In Tiszaalpár, a reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the Millennium, also presents the settlement layout discovered during local excavations.
The Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum offer a different cultural perspective. Visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace, which began in 1902, admire lacework dating back centuries and watch the lace-embroidering process. While the lace museum provides insight into a particular craft, the Cifrapalota currently serves as an exhibition venue for the Kecskeméti Katona József Museum.
Lake Szelid is a natural oxbow lake that developed from a branch of the Danube after the Ice Age. Its educational trail about blue-green algae has twelve information stations covering the lake’s development, the properties of its water, the organisms living there and the surrounding wildlife. The trail is accessible on foot and by bicycle year-round; check local conditions before your visit.
Another nature trail is the 1,100-metre-long Boróka Educational Trail in Bugac. Information boards and interactive stations, such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope, add to the route. While the trail by Lake Szelid covers the lake’s development, water and organisms, Bugac also offers playfully designed stations.
The Természet Háza in Kecskemét is the visitor centre of Kiskunság National Park. It provides information about the national park’s educational trails, visiting conditions for protected areas, its ecotourism programmes and forest schools. From the Puszta Kapuja Information Centre, you can reach the Pásztormúzeum on foot via a dirt road; the distance is about 1.5 km.
