Pigianos Kampos is an extensive coastal area where sandy beaches and agricultural land are part of the character of the place. The area is approximately three kilometres long and two kilometres wide. Its fertile land includes areas used for growing garden produce and cereals, as well as olive groves. The coast and agriculture are therefore equally part of the local landscape. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Pigianos Kampos, you can first consider whether a vacation focused on beaches and activities on the water suits your plans.

Sandy Beach, Clear Water and Stone Groynes

There are sandy beaches along this stretch of coast. Pigianos Kampos Beach is extensive and sandy; clear water and distinctive stone groynes extending into the sea in places add to the coastal landscape. The groynes are a specific feature that shapes the beach in these areas. The coastal area also includes rocky coves where swimming is possible. Different types of shoreline meet here: broad stretches of sand and coves with rocky shores.

There are organized sections with parasols and sun loungers along the beach. For 2026, the Blue Flag list includes the entries Pigianos Kampos/Amira Luxury Resort and Pigianos Kampos/Grecotel LUXME White. The list therefore names two separate entries for that year. If you are planning to use parasols, sun loungers or water sports facilities, check in advance what is currently available.

Water Sports at the Beach

Water sports centres operate in the beach area and offer a range of activities. What is available during your stay may change, so if you are interested, check the latest information in advance. Together with the opportunities to swim in the rocky coves, this makes for a coastal offering that includes activities both on the beach and in the water.

Culture in the Wider Destination of Rethymno

In the wider destination of Rethymno, the Old Town offers a different focus. It is designated a protected historic monument and traditional settlement. Its urban layout took shape during the Venetian period and was later altered under Turkish rule; the historic centre lies below the Venetian fortress of Fortezza. History is evident both in the development of the urban layout and in the centre’s position relative to the fortress.

Since 1991, the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno has been housed in a pentagonal building in front of the main entrance to Fortezza. Its exhibitions present the history of the prefecture from the Neolithic period to Roman times. The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno presents traditional crafts and folk art in five permanent exhibition rooms. In summer, the annual Renaissance Festival adds to the cultural offering with music, theatre and dance performances, as well as art exhibitions. If a festival is important to your travel plans, check the specific event dates.
