Fourfouras offers various ways to spend your holiday: a mountain hiking route leads from the police station to Timios Stavros on Psiloritis; old houses and the lower spring are in the western part of the village. Nearby, there is also a nature park and two caves. The Panagia Kardiotissa Church in Livada adds a historical dimension to your travel plans. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether mountain trails, local history or natural attractions should be the focus of your stay.

Mountain trails with different destinations

A mountain hiking route starts at the police station in Fourfouras and leads to Timios Stavros on the summit of Psiloritis. This high-altitude hike comes with seasonal guidance for high elevations; take it into account when planning. Another hiking trail leads from Fourfouras to the summit of Korakia and is considered clearly marked. The destinations and their respective features offer different options for active holiday days: one route focuses on a summit hike with seasonal guidance for high elevations, while the other is noted for being easy to follow. Check current trail conditions before setting out on a hike.

Church and houses as cultural points of interest

The Panagia Kardiotissa Church in Livada dates from the 14th century and was once a nunnery. Several old houses with simple architecture stand in the western part of Fourfouras. These offer different cultural perspectives: the church stands out for its age and former use as a monastery, while the houses draw attention for their simple construction. If you would like to include history in your holiday plans alongside hiking, you can explore religious history and architecture as separate themes.

Finding your way around the village and nearby area

The lower spring of Fourfouras is in the western part of the village. Fourfouras Natural Park is in the western foothills of Psiloritis, one kilometre north of the village square. The park has trails and a kiosk where you can rest. This creates a clear contrast in location for planning: a spring in the village and a nature park nearby. You can consider features of the village and destinations outside it as different focal points for your stay.

Two caves on Psiloritis

Two caves are located near Fourfouras on the steep slopes of Psiloritis above the village. The smaller Hampathura Cave is at an elevation of 1,460 metres and has one main chamber. A small cellar for aging cheese was built above it. Leska Cave is at an elevation of 1,390 metres and is difficult to reach. Its several chambers were formerly used by cheesemakers to age cheese. The caves therefore differ both in their layout and in their traditional connections to cheesemaking: Hampathura stands out for its single main chamber and cellar, while Leska is notable for its multiple chambers and their former use. Bear in mind that Leska Cave is difficult to reach when making your plans.
