Culture and history
St Laurence's Church is located in Upton; the church is about 900 years old. Parts of Upton Court were also built in Upton in 1325. St Mary's Church in Langley was probably built in the late 11th or early 12th century. Upton Park was developed as an upscale residential area in the 1840s. Next to Upton Park is The Mere, a large half-timbered house built in 1887 for George Bentley, the son of publisher Richard Bentley. There is also a moat site near Cippenham Court on Wood Lane.
Parks and nature
Herschel Park is a 3.5-hectare Grade II listed park and a nature reserve. The park offers a nature history trail. Salt Hill Park is open around the clock all year round. Haymill Valley contains an urban wildlife refuge with reed beds and woodland that can be used by the local population.
A shared cycle and footpath runs through the Heritage Park and nature reserve. It connects Datchet Road with Windsor Road and is linked to the foot and cycle path network. In addition to the park areas, this provides linear connections between the two named roads, without implying a specific circular route.
Activities and events
The Slough Ice Arena includes an ice rink. Its accessible ice-skating activities include more than 30 aids for adult and child skaters. Fun Climb is an indoor climbing activity at the same arena; no prior experience is required, and it uses a self-belay system.
The Venue at The Curve schedules a range of shows and performances. Thus, in addition to the sporting activities, events are also on the programme, while each venue retains its own distinct form.
Location and transport links
The Curve is about a five-minute walk from Slough railway station. Slough has direct access to the M4 motorway. From Slough, the M25 can be reached by car in less than 10 minutes. These three details describe different points of connection: a venue near the railway station and the two named motorway connections.
