The different elevations and caves shape the character of this landscape. The Rennsteig also plays a role for the municipality: its Mosbach district borders the long-distance hiking trail.
The “Die schönen Unbekannten” circular hiking trail on the Rennsteig offers a specific viewpoint. From there, you can see the Hörselberge, the Inselsberg, the Drachenstein and the Wartburg. Museum, craftsmanship and railway history
The Hörselberg Museum is located at the foot of the Hörselberge in a listed complex of buildings. It includes a church, an old schoolhouse, the vicarage and rectory, a stable, a barn, a washhouse and a bakehouse. The variety of buildings gives the museum a distinctive setting. Inside, visitors can learn about the geology and formation of the Hörselberge through unique fossil finds—a fitting focus for anyone who wants to learn how the landscape formed, not just admire it.
Another exhibition is devoted to the region’s baking tradition. It features old baking machines and a variety of kitchen utensils, along with a “bakery shop just like in Grandmother’s day”.
