Serba’s village church was built as a hall church in 1619. Its gallery panels have a special history: during interior renovations in 1934, Marianne Merkel, the daughter of the local pastor, painted six scenes from the life of Jesus there. The building’s history and the images thus belong to different periods in the history of the church interior. If you are interested in religious art, the images offer a tangible point of connection.
The farms also tell the story of the village. Numerous three- and four-sided farmsteads in Serba bear witness to the village’s 800-year history. The terms refer to the number of sides of a farmyard enclosed by buildings; simply looking at the architectural form therefore draws attention to the layout itself. The Gleistalhänge protected area includes Beutnitz, Graitschen, Löberschütz, Poxdorf and Tautenburg, contains the former Poxdorfer Hang nature reserve and covers 277.02 hectares; it was designated on 27 August 1999. Well-maintained hiking routes run through the Zeitzgrund. The SaaleHorizontale is a quality hiking trail that runs north to south along the Saale through the Saale-Holzland district.
