The route returns to Posterstein via Rothenmühle and past the cemetery. The scenery changes along the way: the path crosses orchards and passes through small patches of woodland. A shelter, viewpoints and rest areas are also provided along the route.

The Sprotte Water Adventure Trail offers a different focus. It runs from Posterstein Castle to Schmölln; the nine-kilometre route has twelve interactive stations and activities about life by the water. When comparing the two routes, their stated lengths and themes are the main points to consider: the Holzmichelweg combines village scenery, landscape and a circular route, while the longer water trail devotes its stations to life by the water.
