Culture and History

Rickert’s historic village centre retains its angular layout. Near the entrance to Brenkhof stands a peace oak planted in 1871. At the smithy stands a twin oak which, according to tradition, is intended to symbolise the indivisibility of Schleswig and Holstein.

Until Campen Church was demolished in 1691, Rickert belonged to the Campen parish. Rickert’s local community centre is the venue for regular church services and is also used for performances by the Niederdeutsche Bühne Rendsburg. Rickert’s municipal coat of arms also depicts a wagon wheel and a harrow.

Nature and Landscape

Rickert lies in the outer moraine zone of the last Ice Age and near the boundary between the Schleswig and Holstein geest regions. The terrain is largely flat; there are only a few small hills in the east.

More than two-thirds of the area is used as arable or pastureland. The remaining area consists of meadows and moors. Meltwater channels around Rickert formed moorland over the course of thousands of years, while heathland developed on sandy areas.

The Selkenkoppel Trail is an educational nature trail featuring native deciduous and coniferous trees.
