Braderup: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Braderup shows its distinctive character right at the southern entrance to the village: an Early Gothic church made of white bricks defines the townscape and recalls Danish building traditions. Culture

The village church was first mentioned in the church register in 1240; the Gothic brick building was probably constructed at that time. Two Gothic ribbed cross vaults from the first construction phase have probably been preserved above the nave. The six-part chancel vault is Late Gothic and probably dates from the 15th century. The church tower and a former northern annex with a stepped gable were built at the same time as the second chancel vault.

Landscape

Approximately 89 percent of the municipal area is used for agriculture and forestry. Braderup lies at the transition between geest and marshland.

Cycling Route

The 30-kilometre Dune Route is a cycling adventure route that passes Braderup Church. It runs through a North Frisian border landscape where forests meet inland dunes and heathland borders remnants of raised bogs. The Süderlügum Inland Dunes Nature Reserve covers 41.5 hectares and is characterised by extensive drifting sands. It is described as one of the largest inland heaths in Schleswig-Holstein.

The single-track Niebüll–Tondern railway line crosses the Dune Route; passenger trains have operated there again since 2001.
