Elsterberg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Elsterberg can then continue their search for accommodation. The ruins of Elsterberg Castle, built shortly before 1225, form a large castle complex with 1.5 hectares of built-up area. The grounds are freely accessible; the Elsterberg Local History Room, a museum dedicated to the town’s history, is located in a preserved defensive tower.

History and Culture

St. Laurence Church is documented in Elsterberg as early as 1225. The present building was reconstructed after the town fire of 1840. Its features include stained-glass windows dating from around 1909, as well as windows in the altar area from the time of construction. The 1848 organ has two manuals, one pedal, 35 sounding stops, and approximately 2,000 pipes.

At the Castle Ruins and Local Heritage Festivals, performances preserve Vogtland customs, traditional costumes, and the dialect. At the Elsterberg Knights’ Spectacle, visitors can watch demonstrations of historical crafts and make things themselves. The Castle Ruins and Local Heritage Festivals take place every four years.

Hiking and Landscape

A well-developed network of hiking trails surrounds Elsterberg and connects the smaller districts. Signposted hiking trails lead to Kriebelstein, a 407-meter-high viewpoint with panoramic views, and into the Steinicht Nature Reserve. The Burgleite Route connects the river landscape of the White Elster with wooded and open landscapes and offers panoramic views over the Elster Valley.

Kriebelstein is described as a hill rising 130 meters above Elsterberg and above the Steinicht Nature Reserve.

Water

The Elsterberg Forest Pool has a separate solar-heated paddling pool for children and a 25-meter swimming pool. The non-swimmer area includes a large water slide. There is also a waterfall, a bubbling fountain, massage jets, and a floor bubbler.

Townscape

The redesigned market square, the town hall, the rectory, and the surrounding residential and commercial buildings are described as inviting places to linger and enjoy refreshments. The town hall was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style after the town fire, inaugurated in 1843, and decorated in its hall with six stained-glass windows.
