Falkenau offers a range of ways to spend your holiday: mining history, paths along the Flöha, an outdoor swimming pool and recurring local festivals. The topics range from the Schreyer spinning mill to the entrance to the Xaverius adit; a circular walk also leads through the village to the Hetzdorf Viaduct. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether you would like to plan your trip around cultural history, outdoor activities, swimming or a particular festival date.

Local Festivals Throughout the Year

Falkenau’s event traditions mark recurring points in the calendar. On April 30, the long-standing Walpurgis Night tradition continues with dancing into May at the festival grounds behind the Volkshaus. On May Day, a maypole is erected in front of the Volkshaus. Falkenau’s Advent Festival is held every year behind the Volkshaus on the first Sunday of Advent; the more than 30-year-old Christmas pyramid is set in motion. This means two traditional events take place in spring and another during Advent. Dates and programs may change. If a festival is the deciding factor for your trip, check the latest event information in advance.

Spinning Mill and Mining History

The Schreyer spinning mill, also known as the Georg Liebermann cotton mill, is located at Untere Spinnerei, Dorfstraße 15. Its significance lies in its architectural, local, industrial and personal history. In the wider local mining area around Falkenau, early modern silver mining developed along the Zechenbach stream; a total of 29 shafts have been documented in this area. The village’s history therefore encompasses both the development of a spinning mill and earlier silver mining.

In Zechengrund, the educational trail leads to the entrance to the Xaverius adit. Mining walks take place every year along the mining trail and educational path in Zechengrund. Alongside the historical facts, this provides a recurring walking opportunity focused on mining.

Paths, the Flöha and Nature

The circular walk “From Flöha to the Hetzdorf Viaduct” runs along the Flöha and through Falkenau to the Hetzdorf Viaduct. It follows a footpath and cycle path to Falkenau and then crosses the Flöha floodplain, which is still relatively wide here. The river, floodplain and viaduct define this route, while the mining walks focus on local history.

A municipal post dated August 21, 2025, describes Falkenau Nature Education Park, with a barefoot trail and a field of spiky cones. At the opening, visitors were able to explore a park with 12 stations.

Outdoor Pool and Trip Planning

Falkenau outdoor swimming pool is a well-maintained, old-fashioned natural swimming area in a scenic setting, intended for swimming and relaxation. The site also has a historical connection: an ore-processing and washing plant was once planned there, but the Thirty Years’ War brought the plan to an end.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your travel dates around your main interest: a festival is tied to a recurring annual occasion, while the circular walk along the Flöha and the mining walks offer different ways to spend your days in Falkenau. If a festival is the deciding factor, check the latest dates and programs.
