Townscape and history
Mücheln’s protected historic town ensemble was extensively renovated between 1996 and 2000. The market square is a protected, terraced hillside area in the center of the old town. During the renovation, a historic well 11 meters deep was uncovered and restored there.
Mücheln Town Hall was built in 1571 in the Renaissance style. A visit to the cellars is described as a highlight of a tour of the old town. The town information office offers guided tours of the old town. Two pilgrimage routes also meet in Mücheln: the ecumenical route along the historic VIA REGIA and the Way of St. James. A pilgrim hostel is located next to St. James’ Church.
Trails and landscape
The Unstrut-Triasland Nature Park begins immediately next to Mücheln. St Micheln lies west of Mücheln and is surrounded by limestone cliffs that attract visitors for walks around the village. Numerous passages and caves have been cut into the limestone cliffs. In nearby St Micheln, the Romanesque St. Michael’s Church is recommended as a sight.
The Mill Hiking Trail leads to the last surviving mill building in Mücheln, which was built in 1586. The trail also reaches the seven-arch railway viaduct and then leads through a pedestrian tunnel to the hiking and cycling trails at Lake Geiseltal. Mücheln publishes a circular route from the viaduct to St Ulrich, as well as a walk to the Pauline viewpoint and the Erratic Boulder Garden.
Müchelner Marina can be reached from the market side through a pedestrian tunnel in about seven minutes on foot. The town information office presents exhibitions about the Geiseltal region and its history. The Eichstädter Warte is a medieval watchtower around 13 meters high, with information boards about its history.

Around Lake Geiseltal, visitor activities include boat tours, bicycle rental, diving, stand-up paddleboarding, and wine tastings. At the Zur Forelle restaurant at Mücheln Marina, trout from spring-water aquaculture at Mücheln’s Apostel Springs is served.
