The Goethe Theatre opened on 26 June 1802; the plans were drawn by the Berlin architect Heinrich Gentz. To this day, it is used in accordance with its original purpose. Between May and October, guest performances take place there, primarily at weekends.
The park visitor centre offers tickets for the Goethe Theatre and the historic Kursaal, souvenirs, and information about tourist services, concerts, guest performances, and guided tours. The listed Renaissance Bad Lauchstädt Castle stands directly next to the historic spa park. It can be viewed from the outside, but its interior is not open to visitors.
The New Schiller House contains a historic Schiller room and displays exhibits from Bad Lauchstädt’s more than two-hundred-year theatre history. The Douche Pavilion houses a museum on the history of the mineral spa and is open to visitors.
The architect Johann Wilhelm Chryselius was commissioned to draw up a master plan for the historic spa grounds of Bad Lauchstädt. Spring water was discovered on the site of today’s spa park in 1704.
Walks and Guided Tours
A seasonal park tour leads through Bad Lauchstädt Spa Park and the castle moat, and includes a view of the Duke’s Pavilion. From May to September, a themed tour dedicated to Christiane Vulpius through the Bad Lauchstädt spa grounds is also offered.
Guided tours can be arranged in English with advance notice. A tour includes the accessible historic spa grounds, the Goethe Theatre, and the permanent exhibitions in the Douche Pavilion and the New Schiller House; visits to the theatre may be restricted by the performance schedule.
Paths connect Schafstädt, Bad Lauchstädt, and Lake Geiseltal. The official material also shows sections of the Lake Geiseltal circular route.
