Cycling Routes Through Jerichower Land
The Elbe Cycle Route offers a way to explore the district from north to south. The Elbe-Havel Cycle Route runs along the canal through the nature-rich Jerichower Land and connects the Elbe Cycle Route with the Havel Cycle Route. The two routes have different focuses: the Elbe Cycle Route is all about exploring the district from north to south, while the Elbe-Havel Cycle Route links two cycling routes along the canal.
The waterway junction also extends through Jerichower Land. It consists of the world’s longest navigable aqueduct and several locks. This offers another perspective on the region’s waterways, alongside the cycling routes that cross the landscape.
Jerichow Monastery and Architectural History
Jerichow Monastery is the oldest brick building in northern Germany and is considered a landmark of Jerichower Land. At the monastery museum, you can learn about the monastery’s history. The monastery garden was designed based on historical models and offers another way to explore the site. The garden café serves regional products and homemade cakes. In Burg, towers offer insights into different periods of the town’s history. The Berliner Tor Tower dates back to the second town wall, built around 1400, and is one of the last remaining of the approximately 30 former defensive and watchtowers. The Hexenturm, part of the fortifications dating from the 11th century, has also been preserved there. Those interested in the history of technology can also visit the Historic Tannery in Burg: this fully preserved technical monument offers insights into leather production.
Leitzkau Castle offers a different architectural focus. It is an important example of Weser Renaissance architecture and lies on the Romanesque Road. In the Middle Elbe region, it is considered the most significant castle building from this period. The buildings in Jerichow, Burg and Leitzkau thus represent different themes: monastic history, town fortifications, craftsmanship and Renaissance architecture.

Nature, Animals and Water in Summer
Zabakuck Animal Park is home to more than 130 animals, including native species as well as exotic birds and mammals. The number of animals may change.
