Luckenbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Luckenbach is located in the valley of the Kleine Nister. The municipality has a local network of hiking and cycling trails connected to the WesterwaldSteig.

Trails and Landscape

The Wäller Tour Bachgeflüster trail passes through landscapes close to the riverbank, quiet sections of forest and elevated viewpoints around Atzelgift, Luckenbach, Limbach and Streithausen. It offers rest areas close to the riverbank and viewpoints with an alpine character. At around 14 audio guide stations, QR codes provide stories, historical background, and information about sights and regional features.

The Wäller Tour Bachgeflüster is a difficult hike covering 16.2 km, with 350 m of ascent, 350 m of descent and a stated duration of 4.6 hours. It leads to the Edelstein Mine in Luckenbach and passes the war memorial in Luckenbach. In Luckenbach, it also passes the Evangelical Gustav Adolf Chapel before climbing steeply via the Himmelsleiter in Atzelgift. The route includes mining sites in Luckenbach and is certified by the German Hiking Association in the “Dream Tour” category.

Culture and History

The Gustav Adolf Chapel between Atzelgift and Luckenbach was planned in the 1930s; construction began in 1947, and it was inaugurated on September 17, 1950.

A guided tour of the Edelstein Mine visitor mine takes around 20 to 30 minutes and is limited to 10 participants. The visitor mine is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs; accessibility with a rollator must be checked on site. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. The visitor mine has a temperature of around 10°C, so warm clothing is recommended.

The Evangelical Gustav Adolf Chapel Atzelgift/Luckenbach is listed as a free parking option for the Wäller Tour Bachgeflüster. The Wäller Tour Bachgeflüster can be reached by train to Hachenburg, followed by an approximately six-minute bus ride to Kloster Marienstatt. Because natural sections may be slippery, steep, rocky and uneven, hikers are advised to wear sturdy footwear.

The Westerwald-Lahn Cycle Route runs through Luckenbach and Atzelgift and then continues through Hachenburg.
