History
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Üxheim is a Neoclassical hall church built between 1835 and 1837. St. Joseph, a two-bay Baroque hall church dating from 1705, stands in Üxheim-Ahütte. Also located in Ahütte are the ruins of Neublankenheim Castle, a rubble-stone ruin from the early 14th century with a four-storey defensive tower.
St. Catherine in Ãœxheim-Leudersdorf is a three-bay hall church dating from 1734 and contains a Baroque wayside shrine. St. Leodegar in Ãœxheim-Niederehe is a former monastery church built in the late 12th century as a late Romanesque hall church.
The former parish church choir in Ãœxheim is a late Gothic building from the 16th century. The former Premonstratensian convent complex in Ãœxheim-Niederehe was founded in 1175 and comprises a Romanesque convent church and Baroque convent buildings.
Festes Haus Dreimühlen preserves sections of the walls of an Arenberg forester’s house demolished around 1825. The former Arenberg Mill in Üxheim-Ahütte is a complex comprising three buildings and a millrace; one of the buildings bears the date 1820.
Culture
The historic railway station in Üxheim-Ahütte was restored to its former original condition 50 years after the railway was closed. The historic station opened as a railway museum in 2023, 50 years after the end of railway operations.
The collection at Ahütte Railway Museum includes exhibits, literature and railway timetables relating to the history of railways in the Eifel. Regular guided tours explain the development of the village railway station as well as the historical sale of timetables and tickets. The station café serves hot dishes such as pancakes, Eisenbahnerpfanne and Eisenbahnerjause, as well as homemade cake.
The bronze sculpture of Saint Martin stands opposite the community centre in Leudersdorf and was created by sculptor Ulrich Henn.
Nature
The 11-Dörfer-Blick viewpoint in Leudersdorf has picnic and seating facilities and is accessible by car. The Dreimühlen Waterfall can be reached from Üxheim via cycling or hiking trails.
The eighth stage of the Eifelsteig from Mirbach to Hillesheim runs along forest paths in Ãœxheim-Leudersdorf. The 22-kilometre Kalkeifel Cycle Route connects the Ahr Cycle Route near Ahrdorf with the Kyll Cycle Route near Hillesheim-Bolsdorf and mostly follows a former railway line with gentle gradients.
The Hönselsberg nature reserve in Üxheim-Niederehe contains rare wild-growing orchids. It is accessible exclusively on foot; Loogh is described as the most attractive access point.
