Steinfeld: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

St. Leodegar is the patron saint of Steinfeld. It is assumed that the church was named after him in the 7th or 8th century.

Culture

The Steinfeld Westwall Circular Trail is documented at 22 locations with 24 information boards. The boards also cover other historical events and periods. The circular trail leads through scenic parts of the municipality of Steinfeld. The Verbandsgemeinde Hiking Trail also runs through Steinfeld.

The traditional blueberry festival is part of the local annual calendar. It takes place on the first weekend in July and includes the crowning of a blueberry queen.

Experiences

Kakteenland Steinfeld features more than 1,000 cactus species and 600 other succulents. Admission is free, and the site also has step-free access. Guided tours cover cacti, succulents and aloes; they last approximately 60 minutes and are designed for groups of 5 to 35 people.

Kakteenland is located just outside Steinfeld on the edge of the forest. The nearest train and bus stops to Kakteenland are approximately 1.5 kilometres away. The present-day swimming complex in Steinfeld opened in May 1982.

Nature and Trails

The 139-kilometre Kraut und Rüben Trail runs through Steinfeld. The nearby Bienwald features mixed forest and level paths that offer nature experiences close to Steinfeld.

The Bienwaldmühle Circular Trail can be started at Steinfeld railway station. It passes Kakteenland Steinfeld and the swimming pool before reaching Steinfeld.

Region and Getting There

The Southern Wine Route is characterised by gently undulating vineyards and the open landscapes of the Rhine Plain. It borders the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve and Nature Park and has a dense network of hiking and cycling trails.

Near Steinfeld is the 57-kilometre German-French Pamina Lautertal Cycle Route, 18 kilometres of which are in France. Steinfeld railway station is connected to the Wissembourg–Winden railway line.
