Silz is situated in the Klingbach Valley on Lake Silz, in the landscape of the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. The paths and shore areas around Lake Silz offer opportunities for walking and relaxing.

Landscape

The Southern Wine Route Wildlife and Hiking Park in Silz is a 100-hectare wildlife park. Visitors can observe more than 400 animals from 15 European species there. The park includes short and long circular trails, a petting area, and an adventure playground.

The Silz Lake Circular Climate and Nature Trail includes an educational tree trail, an interactive water-themed station, and a fish quiz. The trail also offers an Actionbound game and information in Plain Language via the SÜW Erlebnis app.

Trails

Nature Park Circular Trail 25 leads to the shelter at Abtskopf and to the Wasgaublick viewpoint. Nature Park Circular Trail 26 reaches a viewpoint with panoramic views at Schweinsfelsen via a steep but secured ladder.

Silz is a starting point for hiking and cycling excursions in the Trifelsland and the Palatinate Forest. These include hikes towards Lindelbrunn, Berwartstein, Landeck, and Madenburg, as well as the Klingbach cycle path towards the Rhine.

Culture and Townscape

The main street in Silz is associated with a memorial to Pastor L. Karbeck, a crucifix, and a stone cross dating from 1823. West of Silz, a several-hundred-metre-long line of anti-tank obstacles remains as part of a heritage zone of the West Wall.

Silz's nickname, “Snails,” is connected with a wet meadow valley crossed by three watercourses. The Schneckekerwe is a local event associated with the municipality's traditional nickname, “Snails.”

Practical Information

The hikers' car park at the sports field is a public parking area that is accessible at all times. It can be reached by car or by bus route 531. Visitor facilities in Silz also include a motorhome pitch.
