Culture and History
The Protestant church in Sohren combines a late Gothic church tradition with an unusual octagonal tower. The oldest parts of the present building date from the 15th century. The Catholic parish church of St. Michael was built in 1906 to designs by Cologne architect Eduard Endler.
Sohren’s railway heritage includes the former railway station, a listed building that was later renovated for gastronomic use, as well as a water tower built to supply steam locomotives. The Jewish cemetery lies north of the village in the forest and was probably established around 1850.
The ruins of Hellkirch, Altburg, and Schmitburg are located around Sohren. Wartenstein Castle lies in the wider regional area around Sohren.
