Culture

A permanent exhibition about the Romans in Boppard is located on Karmeliterstraße. Michael Thonet opened his first workshop in Boppard in 1819.

Four long-distance hiking trails run through Boppard: RheinBurgenWeg, Rheinhöhenweg, Moselhöhenweg and Hunsrückhöhenweg. The Ehrbachklammweg connects the Rhine with the Moselle. The Mittelrhein via ferrata offers a hiking experience with an alpine feel, while the Hunsrückbahnweg combines a hike with the steepest railway line in western Germany.

Seven additional circular hiking trails between 8 and 13 kilometres long run through Boppard's ten local districts. The Bopparder Hamm wine trail is an approximately 11.3-kilometre-long, paved hiking route that begins and ends near Peternach, about 1.5 kilometres outside Boppard. The route offers panoramic views of the Rhine, Osterspai, Filsen and Boppard, includes rest areas and benches, and can be combined with visits to Boppard wine taverns.

Wine

Bopparder Hamm covers around 75 hectares and is the largest contiguous wine-growing area on the Middle Rhine. Visitor attractions include wine taverns, winery festivals and individual wine tastings with winegrowers.

Riesling is the characteristic grape variety of Bopparder Hamm and develops a distinctive character from the deep, slate-rich weathered soil.

Getting Around

Boppard can be reached by Regional-Express via Koblenz, Mainz and Frankfurt, is connected to the opposite bank by a ferry, and has scheduled long-distance boat connections, including services from Mainz and Cologne.
