Straßenhaus: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Overview

Straßenhaus is a municipality in the district of Neuwied in northern Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs to the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach collective municipality. The municipality includes the villages of Niederhonnefeld, Ellingen and Jahrsfeld, as well as the residential area of Jahrsfeldermühle. The municipality of Straßenhaus was formed on 1 August 1966 from the municipalities of Jahrsfeld and Niederhonnefeld-Ellingen. Straßenhaus’s road connections are linked to its proximity to the A3 motorway.

Nature

The Straßenhaus forestry district is located in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park and the Rengsdorfer Land tourism region. The forested area lies in the lower Westerwald on the first ridge east of the Neuwied Basin. The forestry district offers views of the Rhine Valley, the Wied Valley and the Eifel.

The municipal forest of Straßenhaus contains 60 giant sequoias. This contiguous stand in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park has been developed for visitors. In the arboretum, a circular trail about 1.3 kilometres long leads through the grounds and offers panoramic views over the Jahrsbach-Aubach Valley.

Hiking

The premium trails Rheinsteig and Klosterweg cross parts of the Straßenhaus forestry district. A local circular hiking trail is the S3 Straßenhaus. It starts at the intersection of Lindenstraße and Niederhonnefelder Straße in Straßenhaus, crosses the Fockenbach and includes a detour to the Alexander mine. Free parking for the S3 is available at the market square on Niederhonnefelder Straße in Straßenhaus.

Culture and History

In suitable weather, the Niederhonnefeld natural swimming pool offers swimming, paddling and relaxation in green surroundings. It uses natural water that is not chemically treated. The facility began as a mill pond and was converted into a bathing lake in the 1930s. The natural swimming pool also includes a water playground and a covered seating area called Nixenblick.

The Jahrsfeld Market is already documented in the Wied archives for the year 1688. The market includes organic agricultural products.
