Wine

In the 8th century, the area around Wintersheim received several donations of vineyards. This indicates that winegrowing already played an important role there at that time. Today, Wintersheim has seven full-time wine estates. The local wineries invite visitors to taste their wines. Visitors can sample the Bischmann winery’s range in its wine-tasting room.

Culture and History

The Protestant Church of Wintersheim is a building that characterizes the local townscape. The neo-Gothic quarry-stone building with a hipped roof and tower-like roof turret dates from 1896/97. In the former castle courtyard at Hauptstraße 11, there is a late-medieval former residential tower. This former residential tower is a limestone quarry-stone building dating from 1345/46 and features a Baroque alteration from 1754.

The townscape also includes many centuries-old farm complexes that have been carefully maintained and restored. They feature picturesque courtyards and gardens.

Landscape

A local network of cycling and hiking trails crosses gentle hills covered with vineyards. A well-developed network of cycle paths allows visitors to explore the surrounding area and the wider regional surroundings. The vineyard landscape of hills and valleys is suitable for hiking. Views from the heights may include the Odenwald, the Taunus and the Donnersberg.

The water reservoir is a local landmark at one of the highest-developed points in Rheinhessen.
