Uelversheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Uelversheim’s historic town center can be explored along a signposted historical walking tour featuring the historic town hall from 1797, Leininger Castle, the old houses around the church, and the village fountain.

Culture and History

Uelversheim Castle was converted in the mid-18th century from a residential building on the local lord’s estate into a country estate. After its completion, it served as the Counts of Leiningen’s summer residence.

The historical tour includes a Celtic burial site dating from around 50 BC. The “Wäschbach with Spritzbrühhaus” stop documents the Sasselbach village ditch, which runs through Uelversheim from west to east. During the spraying season from May to September, the former Spritzbrühhaus supplied local winegrowers with premixed spraying solution.

The former little chapel served the Catholic community for worship services and religious instruction until 1983. The unusual design of the Protestant parish church is described as unique in Rheinhessen. A tour of Uelversheim’s local history is led by trained tour guide Rita Krämer.

Nature

Uelversheim has an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails in the village and the surrounding area. Uelversheim also presents two local biotopes as places to relax in nature.

Hiking and cycling through vineyards or along the water around Uelversheim are described with landscape views set against a historical backdrop. The local trails offer views across the hilly landscape of Rheinhessen; from the Rebmustergarten viewpoint, the view extends toward the Taunus, Odenwald, Donnersberg, and Binger Loch.

Nearby is Oppenheim, which is associated with St. Catherine’s Church and the cellar labyrinth.

On the Way

The Graunsberghäuschen can be reached via a paved farm track that leads over the Sasselbach and uphill through the vineyard; the return route follows a farm road to the cemetery. There is a landscaped outdoor area there, and inside is a circular masonry bench for resting.

The Junghennblick viewpoint has two tables with benches and an information board for discovering points of interest in the surrounding landscape.
