The Museum im Westrich is housed in a former Baroque inn and town hall. Inside, it displays a fully preserved general store from Ramstein in the last century. The exhibition includes shop furnishings and goods, as well as packaging, colourful tins and advertisements. These objects bring the shop to life: everyday items, product displays and advertising can be viewed side by side, rather than treating everyday history as an abstract subject. The building provides an additional historical setting for the exhibition, while the shop’s contents draw attention to daily life in Ramstein in the last century.
Stone Sculpture and Leisure Area at Seewoog
In Miesenbach, the “Casa Aperta” sculpture stands in the leisure area at Seewoog. Created in 2011 from sandstone, the work takes the form of a massive stone divided into three parts. Built-in steps, passages and platforms structure its substantial form. The artwork’s distinctive character comes not only from its material but also from its spatial design. The leisure area around Seewoog includes a recreation area with a lakeside terrace and food and drink in its western section. The artwork and leisure area therefore offer different ways to enjoy time outdoors. As individual services may change, it is a good idea to check current food and drink options before your visit.
Cycling Routes with Different Highlights
There are also two clearly distinct points of reference for planning a cycling trip. The Sickinger Mühlenradweg starts on Neuwoogstraße in Ramstein-Miesenbach, where it connects directly to the Barbarossa-Radweg. The “Pfälzer Seentour” runs between Miesenbach and Steinwenden and passes six stone artworks belonging to three different sculpture trails. For the Sickinger Mühlenradweg, the defining planning detail is its specific starting point and connection to another cycling route. The Pfälzer Seentour, by contrast, stands out for the connection between the two towns and the artworks along the way. If you plan to take this tour, it is a good idea to check current route conditions, as they may change.
More Nature and Cultural Experiences in the Wider Kaiserslautern Destination
In the wider Kaiserslautern destination, the Mehlinger Heide adds nature and hiking to the picture. There, a heathland discovery trail about 1.5 kilometres long passes information boards and stations; the heath is also connected to the Palatinate Forest hiking network.
